Econic offers a comprehensive range of desktop services, providing the necessary research for a proposed site. Our Survey Questionnaire provides the relevant information and ensures the correct detail and data is used from the very start to ensure the completion of a successful project.
We pride ourselves on providing a comprehensive and professional service for the design and installation of renewable energy systems. No two projects are alike, so we try to make an initial assessment of the cost and viability of a project before undertaking a site survey. Before any design activity is initiated, we invite our prospective client to complete a Survey Questionnaire, covering issues such as:
Site history
What is the history of the site? Was it industrial, commercial, agricultural or ‘greenfield? Have any surveys been carried out in the past, or boreholes drilled? If so, what were the results? What details about the site need to be the subject of additional desk-based research? Are there any environmental or planning issues that might limit particular types of renewable energy solutions?
Local geology
What are the typical geological features of the area surrounding the existing or planned buildings? Is the site underlain by ‘sensitive’ or protected ground and groundwater and so does the site permit boreholes or water sources to be considered? What geothermal response or borehole construction testing needs to be carried out to enable any ground collectors to be designed and specified?
Existing building(s)
Fitting of renewable systems to existing buildings, rather than new builds, requires careful consideration. In particular the heat distribution system needs consideration to see if it matches the designed output of the system. Similar questions also need consideration:-
- What performance characteristics are expected for the new systems?
- Is cooling required as well as heating?
- Are site and floor plans available, for both existing and planned buildings?
Desk based research is carried out to answer these questions and to provide the information required to allow for successful on site testing and consequently the right design for the specific site. The completed Survey Questionnaire enables us to make best use of a subsequent site visit, to validate our initial cost estimate and to investigate the logistics of the planned project more fully.
We identify suitable locations for the ground energy collectors: usually boreholes or horizontal arrays, however, there might be other features present which might provide a renewable heat source e.g. ponds and wells.
We will endeavour to have a site visit where we will typically carry out a visual inspection of any existing boiler installation and the associated heating equipment, domestic hot water tank, etc. We also examine any private water supply or treatment equipment, ground energy collectors, solar panels or other renewable energy installations, as well as any other facilities you may have, such as swimming pools.
At the end of our visit, we will review with you the options we think viable in the context of your budget, needs and overall expectations.
